Margaret F. (Tkach) Tkach

December 28, 1913 ~ May 19, 2015 (age 101) 101 Years Old

Miss Margaret F. Tkach, 101 years old, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2015 at Light of Hearts Villa in Bedford, Ohio. Margaret was born Oct. 28th, 1913 in Struthers, Ohio. She lived in Struthers all her life until moving into Light of Hearts Villa.  Margaret loved Struthers and was a very active person in the community throughout her life.  She was a member of the Struthers Historical Society and loved giving tours of the Historical House, especially to the school children. She was a member and trustee of the Senior Citizens Auxiliary of Local 2162, where she loved planning gatherings and parties.  She enjoyed talking to people about “her” Struthers     and sharing stories from her childhood. A very important part of Margaret’s life was her church, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Struthers. She was very active as a member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, the Altar and Rosary Society, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union Branch 156 and the Youngstown Okres of Ladies Pennsylvania Slovak Catholic Union Branch 180.  Her Catholic faith and her Slovak heritage was the foundation of her long life.  She was proud of her 20 plus years as a “pirohy pincher” at Holy Trinity, “the best pirohy in town.”
Margaret was the daughter of Joseph J. Tkach and Suzanna Dicky Tkach. She took pride in her employment as a housekeeper for a prominent Youngstown family until she retired in 1970. Margaret shared a happy life with four dearly loved sisters and brothers who pre-deceased her; Kathryn Tkach Barry, Mary Tkach Noble, Elizabeth Tkach Simko, Susan Tkach Neilson, George T. Tkach, John J. Tkach, and Harry C. Tkach.  Although Margaret never married and had no children, she was a devoted loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, passing down her love for family traditions.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will take place on Saturday, May 23rd at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 250 N. Bridge St. Struthers, Ohio. An hour of visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 am - 10:00 am, followed by Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Light of Hearts Villa Benevolent Fund, 283 Union St. Bedford, OH 44146.
