Veronica M. Gavalier

Veronica M. (Colonie) Gavalier, 83, passed away peacefully at Mercy Health Boardman on April 5, 2026. After a long and blessed life, she is now joyfully reunited with her husband of 58 years Fred Sr. and her beloved son Fred Jr.

Born in Cleveland on May 6, 1942, Veronica was the daughter of the late Ernest and Frances (Talani) Colonie. She was raised in the heart of a large, vibrant Italian family, where she developed a life-long love for tradition and the joy of gathering around a table filled with good food and even better company.

As she built a family of her own, Veronica poured that same devotion into her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Her home remained a place where the table was always set and the house was always filled with love. When she wasn't caring for her family, she and her best friend Carol enjoyed being Mountaineer’s worst gambling nightmares.

Veronica will be fondly remembered for her exceptional baking, her spirited nature, and her endearing stubbornness - but, above all else, for her deeply loving and generous demeanor. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Veronica is survived by her daughters, Leslie (Jon) Hunter and Renee (Chris) Nye; her daughter-in-law, Dawn (Zamary) Gavalier; her grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew, Olivia, Caiden, Ryan (Hannah), Rachel, Riley, and Reid; great-granddaughter, Elly; her sister, Constance McCann (Hale, deceased); brothers, Anthony (Pam) Colonie and Dominic (Andrea) Colonie; and sister in laws Hattie and Barb Colonie.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gavalier Sr; her son Fred Gavalier Jr; and her brothers, Ernest Colonie and Richard Colonie.

Honoring Veronica’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
