Pierina Barone Obituary

Pierina “Penny” Barone, 97, of Struthers, Ohio, entered into the arms of her Lord on March 18, 2026, passing peacefully in her home. After a long and blessed life, she was joyfully reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Joseph.

Born December 12, 1928, in Statigliano, Italy, Penny was the cherished daughter of Frank and Anna Marie (Lombardi) Conti. Her early years were shaped by the traditions of her Italian heritage—faith, family, and the joy of gathering around a table filled with love.

In her younger years, Penny worked at the Burgundy Lounge and Gaetano’s, where she became known for her exceptional cooking and warm hospitality. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, and her home was always filled with laughter, good food, and the comforting aroma of something delicious simmering on the stove. Penny and her husband treasured their travels to Italy and Mexico, where they created lifelong memories with friends and family.

As the years went on, Penny devoted her life wholeheartedly to her family and to God. Though she did not have grandchildren of her own, she poured her love into and is survived by her nephew Frank and Kathy Perrotta and his children, Frankie and AJ, also Chip and Beth Ann Helminiak who were all like grandchildren to her in every way that mattered. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and godchildren who will forever carry her love in their hearts.

A lifelong member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Penny lived her faith with quiet strength and unwavering devotion. She prayed the rosary many times each day and joyfully participated in church life, especially in the making of piroghy and cavatelli—traditions that connected her to her community and her heritage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph A. Barone, whom she married on September 24, 1949; her sons, Joseph Barone; and her sister, Lorinzina Angelilli and her daughters Frannie and Mary.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt and special thank you to Laina Sturm, Debbie Vaio, Jimmy and Susie Barone, her cousin Mary Bencivengo,  her godchild Pam Notareschi and Traditions Hospice for their loving presence, care, and support during Penny’s final days. Their kindness and devotion brought great comfort to Penny and to the entire family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 23, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 250 N. Bridge St., Struthers, Ohio, where Penny worshipped faithfully throughout her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made in Penny’s honor to Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
