POLAND – Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at 10:30 a.m at the Kirila Funeral Home Inc., for John P. DeSimone, 46, who died on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.
John was born June 19, 1968, in Youngstown, son of William R. and Catherine (Elosh) DeSimone.
He was a graduate of Chaney High School and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Youngstown State University, with a minor in Religion. John was very strong in his faith. He, at one time, managed Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Chicago and Orlando and also worked for the Gap. He then moved to Palm Springs, Calif. Then, John decided to come back to Struthers to work on his Masters Degree at YSU.
He enjoyed pets (especially dogs), music, traveling, being part of charities, art and doing event planning. At the same time he was at YSU, Virginia Tech was going through the horrible school shooting. John put together a fundraiser to help support the families that were involved at Virginia Tech. They raised money that purchased memory books with signatures from students at YSU and Dr. Cynthia Anderson, which were given to those families involved.
He is survived by his mother, Catherine (Elosh) DeSimone of Struthers; a brother, David DeSimone of Lake Geneva, Wis.; his uncle, Richard (Vickie) Elosh of Columbus; his aunts, Phyllis Simon, Mary Grace Mamone, Ann DeSimone and Flo (Bob) Struharik; and many cousins, all of Youngstown.
John was preceded in death by his father, William R. DeSimone; his grandparents; and uncles.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home Inc., 258 Poland Ave. in Struthers.
Burial will be at St. John Cemetery.
In place of flowers, the family has asked donations be sent to Mill Creek Metro Park Foundation, c/o P.O. Box 264, Canfield, OH 44405, in John’s memory.
