On the morning of November 20, 2024, Brittany Paige Heckathorn left this world unexpectedly,
leaving a hole in the hearts of all who loved her. Born on September 18, 1992, Brittany was a
force of nature-brave, stubborn, funny, and fiercely loyal to her family. She faced every
challenge with the determination of her favorite superhero, Batman, refusing to let anything (or
anyone) get the last word.
The greatest joy in Brittany’s life was her son, Landon Phillabaum, her sidekick and the Robin to
her Batman. Together, they shared an unbreakable bond and countless adventures. Landon
was the light of her life, and that light will continue to shine brightly as he carries her memory in
his heart while growing into the incredible person she knew he would be.
Brittany was the cherished daughter of Leona Haynes, who devoted her life to caring for her
daughter, and the late Scott Heckathorn, who passed in 2006. She is survived by her
grandmother, Cecilia "Ann" Wilson of Sugarcreek, OH; her brother, Ryan (Dana) Heckathorn ,
of Struthers; and her niece and two nephews, Bailee, Griffin, and Owen. She also leaves behind
her Aunt Lori and Uncle Archie Burgan of Sugarcreek, OH, her Aunt Leslie McInnis of Missouri;
and her lifelong friend, Alicia Beaver of Struthers, OH. Brittany will be deeply missed by her
extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who filled her life with love and laughter.
Brittany joins her late grandfather, Walter Haynes; her step-grandfather, Harvey Wilson; her
best friend, Chris; and her father, Scott Heckathorn, in heaven-no doubt entertaining them with
her sharp wit and kind heart.
An accomplished individual, Brittany earned her associate degree in Network Administration
and Information Technology from Laurel Technical Institute in 2014, a testament to her
determination and intelligence even in the face of adversity.
For a decade, Brittany fought a courageous battle against juvenile Huntington’s disease, defying
all odds with her indomitable spirit and sense of humor. She lived life on her own terms, proving
time and again that heroes don’t always wear capes.
Brittany’s family invites everyone to celebrate her incredible life and legacy at Kirila Funeral
Home in Struthers on Wednesday 11/27/2024, from 11am to 1pm, followed by a service. In her honor, consider wearing
something Batman-themed.
Though her time here was far too short, Brittany leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and
unwavering determination. She was-and always will be-a hero to those who knew her. Rest
easy, Brittany. Gotham-and all of us-will never forget you.
