Blanche M. Smerek, 97, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021. She was born September 10, 1924, in Youngtown to Stephen and Stephania Terihay. She was a 1942 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and was a member of Holy Apostles Parish, SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she belonged to the Daughters of SS. Peter & Paul. Upon graduating from high school, she worked at General Fireproofing where she riveted aircraft assemblies during the war.
Blanche leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter Patricia Boon and her son, William (Cathy DePolo) Smerek, her granddaughters, Andrea (Mark) Lallier, Courtney (Aaron) Neitzke and Elizabeth (Christopher) Demes; great-grandchildren, Nolan and Nora Neitzke, Alexander Lallier and Claire Demes.
Along with her parents, Blanche was preceded in death by her husband, John, sister, Natalie Tul, brothers, Walter Terihay and William Terihay.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 10:00 am at SS. Peter and Paul Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Holy Apostles Parish.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hampton Woods and Hospice of the Valley for their care.
