Betty Marie DeSantis, 63, of Youngstown, OH, passed away on July 3, 2026 following a short battle with cancer. Betty was born on September 13, 1962, in Youngstown, to the late Verna Barnhart and Edwardo Hernandez.
Betty was a Jackson Milton High School graduate. She resided in the Struthers area for most of her life where she raised her four children.
Betty loved fiercely, protected intensely and never hesitated to stand up for what she believed in. Throughout her life, she found joy in the simple pleasures. She loved spending time with her family, friends, and her dogs. In her early years, she spent her summers camping, swimming and soaking up the sun.
She is survived by her children, Shannon Hernandez, Ed DeSantis and Beth Malaniak (Dain); and her beloved partner Richard Hodnicky. She is also survived by her siblings, Frankie Hernandez, Eddie Hernandez, Debbie Hernandez, Herman Hernandez and Tina Cibella; her grandchildren, William (Bella), Mya, Ava, Dominic, Alaina, and Grayson; her cousin Dory Westover; friends Leah, Rosie and Ed, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather Gary Barnhart, her son Michael DeSantis and her longtime friend Patty Cappitte.
The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Kirila Funeral Home in Struthers, Ohio.
