John Macabobby, 91

COITSVILLE - A Panachida service will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home followed by a Devine Liturgy at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Byzantine Church for John Macabobby, 91, who passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at the Beeghly Oaks Nursing Center.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1926, in Struthers, son of the late Michael and Mary (Demko) Macabobby.
John was a graduate of Struthers High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. John worked for Youngstown Steel Door. He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Church. He was a member of the VFW post No. 7538 and its golf league and the St. Michael’s Church golf league and enjoyed bowling with the Old Timers.
John was very proud of his time spent in the Navy and had the greatest respect for all veterans so he made it his mission to obtain veterans flags and poles to be installed at St. John Cemetery.
John is survived by his two daughters, Paula Weaver of Coitsville and Gail (Don) Daniels of Pittsburgh; son John (Ann) Macabobby of Uniontown; two sisters, Mary Jaros of Struthers and Ann Sikora of Struthers; and two grandchildren, Alexander Daniels and John A. Macabobby.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Christine M. (Vasile) Macabobby, whom he married on June 14, 1947, and who died on April 12, 2006; his stepmother, Susan Macabobby; his son-in-law, Rick Weaver; three brothers, George, Mike and Ed Macabobby; and his sister, Marjorie Gregg.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home, Inc., 258 Poland Ave. in Struthers. Burial will take place in the St. John Cemetery.
In place of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
