Struthers, Edward “Mama” Vasilchek, 90
A Panachida Service will be at 10:00 am on Friday September 23, 2016 at Kirila Funeral Home, Inc. followed by a Funeral Divine Liturgy Service at 10:30 am at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church for Edward “Mama” Vasilchek, who passed away on September 18, 2016 at Hospice House. Edward was born on September 2, 1926 in Struthers, the son of the late John and Susan (Ondoncin) Vasilchek. 
He was a graduate of Struthers High School and a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church. He served in the US Army during WWII. He worked on the P. & L.E. Railroad for 40 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 7538 and 3538. He was a member of the Men’s Club at St. Michael's. He was a Co-Founder of the Byzantine Catholic Central School’s “300 Club” Athletic Program. Edward enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, watching Cleveland sports, and spending time with his family. 
He is survived by his wife, Norma (Flannigan) Vasilchek, whom he married August 20, 1983, three sons, Mark (Kelly) Vasilchek of Venice, Florida, David (Danielle) Vasilchek of Struthers, James (Pamela) Vasilchek of Lowellville, two sisters, Helen Schilling of New Middletown, Sister Mary Ann, Order of the Sisters of St. Basil of Uniontown, PA., five grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, John, Monika, and Stephen, and two greatgrandchildren, Noah and Genevieve.
In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his first wife, Emily (Zelina) Vasilchek, whom he married October 1, 1955, she died March 5, 1970, two brothers, Mike and John Vasilchek, and five sisters, Mary Fallat, Delores Vasilchek, Anne Puskar, Susan Ramsey and Eileen Kisak.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday September 22, 2016, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Kirila Funeral Home, Inc., in Struthers. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
The family would like to thank caregivers Jasmine, Ebony, and Cathy, Nurse Karen, Dr. Alex Vrable, and the Staff of Hospice of the Valley for their loving care in Edward’s final days. Also, a special thank you to Edward’s daughter-in-law, Pamela, who also took care of him in his final months.
Although flowers are beautiful, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
