Alice C. (Kokis) (Peroga) Merdich

Funeral services will be held on  February 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at the  Christ Our Savior Parish,  St. Nicholas Church for Alice (Peroga) Merdich, 87, who died  at Caprice Health Center with her family at her side, following a short illness.She was born on March 29, 1931  in Struthers, daughter of that late George Kokis  and Mary Zelinsky Kokis Spontak .She graduated in 1949 from Struthers High School and she worked for Jet Dry Cleaners,  retiring in 1989.

Alice loved having company and was a gracious hostess. She was an excellent cook and baker and prepared all of the holiday dinners including the traditional Slovak (Vilija) Christmas Eve Dinner. She enjoyed sitting outside and going for her daily walks. She did her own yard work until she was 86. She looked forward to going to Saturday 4:30 pm mass and praying her rosary daily. Alice belonged to a "500" card club for over 60 years, she attended Struthers High School luncheons and Struthers Northside reunions. A former member of the Penn Ohio Polka Pals Booster Club and a phone operator taking requests for the WKTL Radio Slovak Hour. Alice spoke Slovak fluently. She enjoyed listening to Polka Music and especially Polka dancing. She is also a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Branch 156. Alice was very proud of her Slovak heritage. 

She leaves behind her daughters, Marilyn Porinchak and Nancy (Joe) Mayor and her grandson, Eric Porinchak who she was so proud of. Also surviving are two nephews and numerous cousins she was close to and loved dearly along with her longtime friends she spent time with. 

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her first  husband, Joseph Peroga, and her second husband, Joseph Merdich, son in law, Bill Porinchak, infant grandson, sister in law and brother in law, Mary (Steve) Galich, friend, Andrew Serenko.

Friends will be received Saturday, February 16, 2019, 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the Christ our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. 
Alice will be laid to rest at St. John Cemetery in Coitsville. 

The  family would like to thank the staff at Caprice Health Center for their excellent care for Alice and her daughter Marilyn.
