STRUTHERS – A prayer service will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home, Inc. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish, Holy Trinity Church, also on Saturday, for Valent F. “Icky” Hvizdak, 95, who passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at the Maplecrest Nursing Home in Struthers.
Valent was born April 8, 1919, in Struthers, son of the late John and Elizabeth (Salancy) Hvizdak.
He went to Struthers High School and attended Holy Trinity Church and worked for the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad as a General Car Foreman. He enjoyed playing the lottery, bingo and gardening.
Valent is survived by his nephew, Raymond (Barbara) Jaros, and a niece, Marie (Jim) Hanuscin, both of Howland; two great-nieces, Kristen (Jason) Puhlman and Bethany (Nick) Worner; and a great-nephew, Brian Jones.
In addition to his parents, Valent was preceded in death by a sister, Veronica Jaros, three brothers, Steve and Paul Hvizdak, and John Komar; and a nephew, David Jaros.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home, Inc., 258 Poland Ave. in Struthers.
Burial will take place at the St. John Cemetery.
The family would like to thank very special friends, Mark and Nickolas Keil, for being so caring and supportive to Valent, especially visiting with him, the staff at Maplecrest Nursing Home for their care and support, and also All Caring Hospice in Canfield.
