Martin J. Basista, 86

LOWELLVILLE ­ Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, St. John the Baptist Church, for Martin J. Basista, 86, who died on Nov. 20, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones. Martin was born on Feb. 6, 1931, in Campbell, a son of the late Martin Jacob and Mary Veronica (Zets) Basista.

Martin was a Korean War Air Force veteran serving in Guam, and a 1950 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. He was a welder with LTV, retiring after 30 years of service in 1979, and a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Church.

Martin loved his home and family with all his heart.

He leaves to treasure his memory, his beloved wife, the former Theresa Julie Zeyzus, whom he married Aug. 17, 1957; his brother William (Sally) Basista of Austintown; his son Lawrence (Cheryl) Basista, and daughter Susan Novak both from Lowellville; his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Timothy Basista of Conestoga, Pa, Rebecca ²Becky² (Robert) Komara of Canfield, Amy, Erin and Mary Rose Novak all from Lowellville; his stepgrandchildren, Kyle (Nicole) and Jared Troyer from Mesa Ariz.; and his littlest shining stars, great-grandchildren Robby and Alijah Komara, and Daxton and Bodie Troyer. He also leaves many nieces and nephews to treasure his memory.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Stephen, Emil and Edward and sisters Marie Olexa and Clara Basista.

Family and friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home Inc., 258 Poland Ave. in Struthers and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Campbell. Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice House

Martin¹s family would also like to thank the following people for their love and tender care during his brief illness: Dr. Kohli, Dr. Buccino, Dr. Krishnan, the staff at Maple Crest Nursing Home and the nurses and staff at Hospice House.
