Boardman, Attorney George E. Kalafut,

Funeral services will be held on Friday April 24, 2015 at 7pm at Kirila Funeral Home,Inc. for Attorney George E. Kalafut age 79 who died Thursday April 16, 2015, with his family by his side. George was born April 21, 1935 in Campbell, OH, son of late Joseph and Helen (Wukovich) Kalafut .

George was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Youngstown College with his Bachelor’s Degree and the University Of Akron School Of Law with his Juris Doctor Degree. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956, having the rank of Specialist Third Class. While in law school George worked as the Clerk of Courts in Struthers. After becoming an attorney, George was asked to start and run the Public Defenders Office in both Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. After George retired from the Trumbull County Public Defenders Office he had his own private practice. George loved to play the trumpet along with his brother who played the accordion; they entertained at various functions including many legal gatherings. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling to Lake Erie with his friends, and was a champion jitterbugger winning every contest he entered except one where he got second place.  He enjoyed sports, especially watching his children and grandchildren's basketball games. He especially loved making people laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Buccilli) Kalafut,  his children, George (Gloria) Kalafut in Poland, Kristopher Kalafut, Traci (Eric Huffman) Kalafut, Georgia McKee, all of Boardman, a sister, JoAnn Butch in California, grandchildren, Sabrina Donnadio, Danielle Moore, George Kalafut, Krystle Kalafut, Rachel Kalafut, Leanna McKee, Allison McKee and Great-Grandchild, Kaylin Donnadio, Haley Donnadio and Michele Moore. In addition to his parents George was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie (Lancien) Kalafut, two daughters, Michele Hartzell and Suzanne Holby, a grandson, John Holby and his brother, the Honorable Judge Robert Kalafut.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday April 24, 2015 from 4 -7 pm at the Kirila Funeral Home, Inc., 258 Poland Avenue in Struthers, Ohio.

George was a very humble person, a great father, and very well respected by his colleagues. He will be sadly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the following people/agencies for their care and support given to George, Compass Family and Community Services, Dr. Dennis Orr, Yelena Kaplan, DPM, Kim McKinney-Avery, LPN, Steve Pipala, HT, caregivers, Leonard Britton, STNA, Steve Seifert, Activity Director, Stacee Gebhardt, LPN, Attorney Jonathan Schoenike and Eric Huffman who was like a son.
